There are three main alternatives for repairing scratches in strand woven bamboo flooring.
- Using a ‘miracle scratch remover’.
- Using a scratch repair kit from the manufacturer where you bought your strand woven bamboo flooring.
- Using a stain pen and wood putty.
Miracle Scratch Remover
It is not recommended that you buy a miracle scratch remover because these so called miracle products normally contain a variety of toxic chemicals, especially VOCs or volatile organic compounds. Major flooring manufacturers do not recommend using miracle scratch remover products.
Scratch Repair Kit
These are sometimes called bamboo floor scratch remover kits. They are provided by strand woven bamboo flooring manufacturers. They are ideal because they are designed specifically for each type and color of strand woven bamboo flooring made by a certain manufacturer. Obviously the more reputable the dealer that you bought your strand woven bamboo flooring from, the more likely they are going to stock scratch repair kits.
Stain Pen and Wood Putty
This is the cheapest and simplest solution to repairing a scratch in your strand woven bamboo flooring. If the scratch is shallow then it is a simple matter to use a pen to cover the scratch. Unless you have a very exotic coloring for your strand woven bamboo flooring, it should be a simple task to find a stain pen to match the color of your floor. If the scratch is a little deeper then you will need to use wood putty. After applying the wood putty and allowing it to dry, buff the putty and surrounding area to make the finish even. Then use a stain pen to make the puttied area the same color as the rest of the flooring.
If the scratch is fairly deep then you will need to sand out the damaged area before applying the wood putty. After the putty and stain pen are dry it is important to apply some polyurethane coating to protect the flooring from liquids and humidity. Without polyurethane coating strand woven bamboo flooring is liable to warp and fade in color
